Tokyo Alley

This was a test for studying the workflow and refine the pipeline between Houdini and Unreal Engine 5.
All assets were created by me using Houdini as I wanted to find out all the upsides and downsides of implementing it as main and only DCC tool, Also the goal was to setup a workflow were I use only tillable materials for all the assets and add some uniqueness to the look and feel of each asset using Unreal's distance field masks and other techniques within the shaders. the stickers , graffiti , posters etc are added as alpha cuts within an atlas.
Also for dirt some decals were added to the mix ;)

the concept:
I wanted to recreate the scenery that you can find while walking in the Shinjuku's Tokyo streets, where you find your self navigating the jungle of the tiny izakaya (Pub or Bar) back alley's and all of the sudden you come out to a residential place with small restaurants that sell you lunch and where people goes with their everyday activities all inside the Mega city landscape that Tokyo is.

these are some examples of how I approached the modeling using Houdini.
